Our client is an established European shipping company on the lookout for HSEQ/Marine Superintendent professionals with a prior sailing background as a Master Mariner/Captain on board oil tankers and some shore-based Superintendent experience to be based in their growing offices in Mumbai, India.

 

Reporting to the Head of Marine department, the Marine Superintendent’s role is to ensure that safe and smooth operations of managed vessels are carried out and in compliance with all international rules and regulations.

 

Job Description :

  • To implement and maintain the Safety Management System onboard vessels.

  • To look after and ensure to support the safe ship operations onboard company-managed vessels.

  • To monitor cargo and navigation operations of the fleet.

  • To carry out shipboard and shore audits for the company's SMS & ISP's Compliance etc.

  • To maintain vessel required certificates as per department guidelines.

  • To assist vessels to prepare well for Oil Major Vetting inspections, PSC, and Flag State and Charterers inspections.

  • Preventive measures against marine casualty and pollution.

  • Management of ship operations, safety, and health.

  • Prevention of marine and air pollution.

  • Navigational information.

  • Information for laws, conventions, and regulatory requirements.

  • Cargo information and plans.

  • Insurance matters.

  • Audits of vessels.

  • Monitoring processes needed for the quality and environmental management system are established, implemented, and maintained.

  • Report on the performance of the quality and environmental management system and any need for improvement.

  • Ensure the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization.

  • Assimilation of requisite data for Quality and Environmental Systems.

  • Control documents in relation to the System.

  • Assimilate data and prepare for the Management Committee for continuous improvement of the System.

 

Job Requirements :

Qualifications and Experience

  • Nautical Science qualification or equivalent.

  • Master Unlimited Class 1 Certificate of Competency.

  • At least 1 year of sailing experience as Master Mariner onboard Very Large Crude Carrier.

  • Sailing experience as Master Mariner onboard Product Tanker.

  • Possess sound knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, MLC, ISM Code, ISPS Code, and various other codes and conventions as applicable to crude tankers, product tankers, chemical tankers, and gas carriers, etc. and hand-on experiences as well.

  • Possess good knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 as applicable to the marine industry with regards to safe ship operations, pollution prevention, and QMS.

  • Good knowledge of Various Flag State Rules and Regulations, etc.

  • Good leadership and negotiation skills – PSC, Vetting.
