A Technical Superintendent is a shore-based maritime professional who acts as the vital link between a fleet’s vessel crews and company management . They are responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical operations, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of assigned ships
Key Responsibilities
- Vessel Maintenance & Repairs: Plan and oversee routine maintenance, dry-dockings, and emergency repairs. Prepare detailed technical specifications and monitor job progress .
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all vessels adhere to Flag State, Classification Society, Port State, and International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations. Oversee safety management (ISM code)
- Budgeting & Cost Control: Develop, monitor, and manage annual technical budgets for assigned vessels. Approve requisitions for spare parts, lube, and fuel.
- Crew Support & Leadership: Act as an intermediate advisor to the Master and Chief Engineer. Mentor engineering teams, monitor crew morale, and participate in technical training.
- HSEQ Management: Implement Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies. Lead incident investigations and conduct root-cause analyses if accidents or equipment failures occur
