Group Tax Manager - (Oil/Commodity Trading & Shipping Sector)

Primary Purpose of the Position

  • Is responsible for the management of tax compliance activities for Singapore and US Groups which may include income tax, excise, GST/VAT and various other taxes;
  • Provides effective tax advice and engages with revenue authorities, with the support of the International Tax Manager;
  • Supports and contributes to the achievement of Group Tax strategies by participating in Group Tax projects and improvements

 

Critical Accountabilities & Outcomes

  1. Responsible for the delivery of taxation compliance services and analysis (including, but not limited to, the preparation of GST/VAT, income tax, intercompany transactions/ recharges and excise returns and responding to routine enquiries by revenue authorities) within agreed timeframes for the Singapore and US Groups.
  2. Own the Group Tax relationship with the Singapore and US Trading & Shipping teams and provide tax advice which demonstrates an understanding of the business’s commercial strategic objectives and key drivers and is technically accurate, fit for purposes, practical and delivered within agreed and reasonable timeframes.
  3. Provide subject matter expertise in designated areas of taxation.
  4. Maintain Group Tax processes and procedures, with a focus on managing tax risk and enhancing efficiencies, through the use of system and process improvements.
  5. Manage the relationship and engagement with external advisors, auditors, revenue authorities and other stakeholders.
  6. Manage the day-to-day relationship with Enterprise Singapore and the performance for Global Trader Program (GTP) criteria. Where issues are identified, develop and implement solutions.
  7. Develop the skills and capabilities of the Singapore and US Tax Analysts.
  8. Identify and assist with implementation of taxation processes and system improvements.
  9. Utilise technology to more efficiently and effectively carry out tax compliance duties, including the use of robotic process automation and/or machine learning tools.
  10. Plus such duties as may be reasonably required by the company from time to time

 

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Law.
  • Masters of Tax or Law or other postgraduate qualifications preferable (CPA/CA) or studying towards the same

 

Experience

  • 10+ years in a tax based role in a large organisation preferably in oil or other commodity trading companies with a CA or CPA

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong technical skills and advanced analytical skills.
  • Current experience in income tax, GST/VAT and/or international tax (e.g. transfer pricing) and the ability to apply this knowledge to provide commercial tax options to group.
  • Ability to think laterally and critically and to prioritise and manage competing work.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and engage effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills.
