Pool Accountant (Shipping/Maritime)

Our client is a leading European commercial operator that manages a pool of ships, and they are looking for a pool accountant who will report to the Financial Controller.

Primary Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records for the shipping pool.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure all financial reports are in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Reconciliation:

  • Perform regular reconciliations of pool accounts, including revenues, expenses, and distributions.
  • Identify discrepancies and resolve any accounting issues.

Analysis:

  • Analyse financial data related to pool performance and provide insights to management.
  • Support decision-making with financial analysis and reports.

Compliance and Audit:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation during audits.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with operations and chartering teams to ensure accurate recording of pool activities.
  • Liaise with external partners and pool participants to manage financial transactions.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in financial reporting and accounting.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of pool/voyage accounting experience, preferably in the shipping or maritime industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
