Finance Director (Shipping/Maritime)

 

Our client is a European shipping company with notable presence around the globe. This role is a Singapore Finance Director role reporting into the GM and is newly created.

 

Job Objective:

Directs and ensures that operations of the Accounting/ Finance Department in Singapore and Manila comply with the company’s procedures and applicable legislation. Manages the company's liquidity through expense control and diligent collection of funds from customers. Contributes to the company's sales efforts by ensuring KYC and profitability goals are met. Provides analyses of the financial results, operational costs and new investments, ensuring that the prescribed standards are achieved and maintained, thus contributing to and supporting the company’s strategic decision-making.

 

Key Accountabilities:

1. Participates in the development of the Group’s short and long-term strategic objectives and goals by providing analytical reports concerning the financial results, so as to enhance the alignment of the operations with company goals.

 

2. Keeps abreast of national and international economic conditions and monitors developments and trends to act as an advisor to top management procedures and financial standards, as well as proposing improvements that will increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the operations.

 

3. Ensures proper KYC is documented, net profit goals are met and payment terms are agreed and adhered to for new and existing business. Participates in meetings with key local clients directly. Provides necessary financial information and costing on services, while contributing to the development of contracts, ensuring that their terms and conditions protect the interests of the Company and are in compliance with financial processes and standards.

 

4. Ensures that all clients receive the financial statements, accounting reports and services invoices for their vessels according to the respective management contracts and handles the resolution of non-routine inquiries that may arise.

 

5. Handles external relationships with financial institutions and local authorities, especially tax regarding financial matters.

 

6. Liaises with external financial and tax auditors and maintain relationships with them, to ease the provision of all required information and contribute towards the accurate execution of audits. Monitors and follows up on the results of the audits, so as to protect the company’s interests.

 

7. Develops the budget of the as well as its periodical revisions and upon approval reviews its accurate implementation, as well as develops analytical management reporting, identifies potential discrepancies, provides reasoning of findings, and propose solutions that will increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the company.

 

8. Provides financial support and guidance to the country’s VAS, CSC and/or MTC units, to increase their compliance with policies and procedures and enhance their effective and efficient operation.

 

9. Ensures the timely and accurate provision of the consolidated, separate and ad-hoc reporting of financial results to Shareholders, and group management, in order to increase their awareness of the financial performance.

 

10. Reviews and improves the procedures and guidelines for the financial/accounting operation, to ensure smooth workflow in compliance with international and local financial and accounting standards and regulations and in accordance with Policies.

 

11. Coordinates and supervises all taxation aspects of the group and liaises with local tax authorities to ensure the accurate and timely incorporation of all relevant activities. Ensures the accurate and timely provision of all the required tax returns and financial statements to local authorities (e.g. tax authorities, social security body, and municipality), to secure the compliance of with the local legislation.

 

Requirements

Education & Qualification:

 

  • University degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent
  • Professional accountant qualification (ACA/ACCA/CPA)

 

Work Experience:

 

  • At least 15 years of finance leadership experience with a shipping/maritime organisation
    • Shipping or Maritime industry experience is a must.
