We are partnering a reputable shipping company to source for a HSEQ Superintendent. This is an opportunity to join a global shipping company in one of their offices worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize, conduct, and document internal audits onboard vessels; track findings and ensure timely follow-up.
- Coordinate and oversee external audits on ships, address issues raised (Corrective Action Requests), liaise with auditors, and ensure all concerns are effectively resolved.
- Create and distribute safety-related materials such as newsletters, safety alerts, and incident summaries for fleet-wide awareness.
- Launch and manage safety initiatives aimed at promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
- Carry out internal audits at the office level, including tracking and resolving any identified issues.
- Take part in investigating incidents, evaluate incident reports from vessels, identify preventive actions, and follow up to confirm they’re fully implemented.
- Address and resolve vessel-related queries in a timely manner.
- Evaluate non-conformance reports (NCRs) from vessels and assess related corrective and preventive measures.
- Provide feedback on monthly safety meeting minutes and vessel reviews of the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Prepare Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plans (SOPEP) and security documentation for newly acquired vessels and submit them to the classification society for approval.
- Review and assess onboard hot work permit plans.
- Deliver training to onboard staff undergoing shore-based programs.
- Plan, execute, and assess the effectiveness of joint ship/shore emergency drills annually.
- Lead and develop the support team within the department, fostering a productive and motivated work environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Class 1 Master Mariner or Chief Engineer certificate with at least two years of sea service on bulk or GAS vessels
- A minimum of two years in a shore based HSEQ position overseeing bulk or GAS vessels
- Must have experience with RightShip Audits
- Strong knowledge of current maritime rules, regulations, and compliance standards.
- Skilled in conducting audits, hazard identification, and incident investigations.
