Job Description

  • Reports directly to the Fleet Manager, GasTech. Responsible for the onboard condition and performance monitoring of the Cargo and N2 systems, including but not limited to operational support, technical maintenance support as per the company’s IMS procedures and policies, and onboard competence development of the ship staff.

  • Experienced in handling refrigerated gas cargoes including Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, and VCM.

  • Support the Marine Operation Managers, Ship Managers, and Commercial Team on matters related to gas technical issues and cargo handling.

  • Visit and sail onboard as per designated schedules to carry out inspections, gain firsthand insight into the vessel’s cargo equipment condition, and assess crew competencies. Prepare management inspection reports and audit reports related to cargo equipment.

  • Visit and sail onboard to support and assist fleet vessel staff in resolving cargo equipment and instrumentation-related technical problems or during critical cargo operations with regard to performance, compliance, maintenance, and best practices.

  • Inspect and assess cargo and N2 plant performance onboard to ensure alignment with design parameters and industry best practices.

  • Review reports for cargo cooling down, heating/partial heating, and PSA plant performance at regular intervals to optimize for safety and efficiency.

  • Inspect for compliance with refrigerant management standards onboard.

  • Attend vessels to support proactive maintenance and service of cargo and PSA/N2 systems, including electrical and electronic cargo instrumentation, in coordination with the technical team.

  • Inspect portable gas instrumentation and support shore service and calibration. Provide maintenance guidance and training procedures for gas detection and sensor calibration.

  • Review and ensure the Planned Maintenance System onboard is maintained and updated for all cargo and N2-related equipment.

  • Ensure adherence to safety, security, health, hygiene, and environmental risk assessments.

  • Promote safety culture and lead by example.

  • Propose continuous improvements to HSSE and Compliance procedures based on vessel feedback, evolving regulations, technology, and client needs. Implement approved improvements across the fleet.

  • Liaise with the Emissions and Efficiency team to adopt new technologies and contribute to fleet digitalization.

  • Coordinate with the Learning and Development team to help develop training programs for Gas Engineers and ETOs related to cargo equipment and instrumentation.

  • Responsible for onboard competence development and training of Gas Engineers and ETOs. Review modules under the Gas Competency Development Program (GCDP).

  • Conduct crew training seminars and clinics to support skill development.

  • Support simulator development and training program implementation.

  • Participate in newbuilding projects, focusing on layout, operations, and cargo plant performance.

  • Assist with incident investigations involving cargo systems, recommend corrective and preventive actions, and ensure their implementation, with regular progress updates to Fleet Management and Technical Leadership.

Qualifications

  • Sailing experience as Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer, Cargo Engineer, or relevant experience in gas plant operations.

  • Hands-on experience with LPG, Ethylene, or Ethane cargo operations.

  • Ability to travel at short notice and adapt to a 24/7 on-call work environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

  • Strong time management, independence, and accountability in meeting deadlines.

  • Self-driven, organized, and resourceful.

  • Collaborative team player capable of managing cross-functional relationships in a fast-paced and dynamic setting.
