Our client is a leading dry bulk commodity trading firm looking to hire an experienced Ship Operator who will be responsible for operating vessels and providing subject matter expertise for the daily execution of allocated voyage and time-chartered vessels.

The incumbent in this position is not only accountable for the efficient execution of allocated voyages but also for maximizing the profitability of every voyage in close cooperation with the vessel master’s and commercial teams with productivity focus and critical thinking. This role may require direct communication with ship masters to advise, monitor and action on-water and port interface activities as required to maintain operational integrity.

Reporting to the Operations Manager you will be responsible for”
  • Interpret charter party contracts across different trade routes.
  • Working to existing policy and manage compliance as per standards and expectations.
  • Effectively plan, manage, and optimise performance of the vessels.
  • Develop and issue voyage instructions and manage voyage formalities.
  • Work with fuel procurement team to develop, manage and execute bunkering plans and strategies.
  • Promptly and efficiently manage and track all day to day ‘on-water’ activities.
  • Acts as the primary escalation point for all ‘on-water’ operational issues.
  • Monitor vessel and fleet trends with respect to bunker consumption.
  • Directly engage and work with ship’s masters to manage all voyage risk exposures.
  • Engage directly with ship owners in relation to vessel performance and safety.
  • Working with port operations advise and assist in port safety management.
  • Directly engage port and agency nominees to manage all port interactions.
  • Effectively manage communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage and/or negotiate operational disputes with ship-owners and receivers.
  • Maximising profitability of every voyage in close cooperation with the commercial team and accountability for P&L on voyages and able to manage/explain variances.
  • Using relevant performance tools monitor, manage and report fleet performance & efficiency
  • Managing transparent and professional supplier relationships.
  • Active engagement in building customer knowledge and relationship.
  • Post voyage analysis and review.
  • Identify process gaps. Propose and implement improvement actions.
  • Running/assisting in value generation projects.

About you
  •  
  • To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Degree/Diploma in Marine or related.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in bulk ship operator role.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Strong numeric and analytical skills.
  • Sound negotiation skills.
  • IMOS experience.
  • Good team player.
