Job Scope:

To ensure the safe operation of the ships to which he/she has been assigned and to provide a link between the Company and those on board to monitor the safety and pollution prevention aspects of the operation and to ensure that adequate resources and shore based support are applied as required. Status Report to the Marine & Safety Director/Designated Person Ashore, Marine Manager & assists Marine Superintendents.

Responsibilities

  • Secretarial work for the DPA/ CSO of the company.

  • Assist the overall operations of the Marine Department with day to day operations of the company managed vessels.

  • Monitor the office and shipboard marine, safety, environmental & quality issues.

  • Monitor messages to/from vessels (ie. Acknowledgement of receipt of important messages, circulars and alerts sent. PCS reports, Non-Conformity reports, Incident reports, etc.)

  • Maintain records and promote closing of accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformance reports.

  • Liaise with the vessels with regards to operational, navigation and HSSEQ/ Marine matters.

  • Liaise with Flag State Authorities and Classification Societies.

  • To ensure that the Vessels Certifications are always maintained and formulates the shipboard annual audit plan to ensure that audits are progressed.

  • Co-ordinate the provision of specialist advice on all marine and operational issues to vessels and office staff.

  • Assist to arrange third party inspections such as Oil Major, CDI and flag state inspections and co-ordinate response.

  • Assist to monitor shipboard drug and alcohol testing.

  • Assist to monitor the charts and nautical publications supply process to vessels ensuring corrections and updates are provided as necessary.

  • Any other duties as required by the Head of Department.

Education & Experience:

  • Prior experience in Shipping company or offshore/oil and gas

  • Able to work in a team based environment 

Skills / Competencies: 

  • Able to meet tight deadlines.

  • Must be proficient in software applications, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Resourceful, meticulous, well-organized and ability to work independently.

  • Confident and comfortable with handling confidential information.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Possess a mature personality with interpersonal and organizational skills.
