Vetting / Marine Superintendent
Role Overview
The Vetting / Marine Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the safety, compliance, and suitability of vessels engaged in bulk and tanker operations. The role focuses on marine assurance, vetting performance, and risk management, supporting high standards of operational safety and regulatory compliance across chartered and controlled vessels.
This position is well-suited to a former Master from Bulk or Oil Tanker background transitioning into a shore-based superintendent role.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and oversee vetting and marine assurance activities for bulk carriers and tankers.

Assess vessel suitability for employment through desktop reviews, inspections, and vetting evaluations.

Review and analyse PSC, SIRE / RightShip, incident, and inspection data to identify risks, trends, and improvement areas.

Engage with shipowners, technical managers, Masters, and vetting service providers to address findings and close out observations.

Provide expert marine input on ship selection, chartering suitability, and operational risk assessments.

Support and participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.

Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, and Flag State requirements.

Promote best practices in HSE, navigational safety, cargo operations, and seamanship standards.

Contribute to continuous improvement of marine safety frameworks, procedures, and assurance processes.
Qualifications & Experience

Master Mariner (Unlimited CoC) is mandatory.

Significant sailing experience as Master on Bulk Carriers and/or Oil Tankers.

Prior shore experience in vetting, marine superintendent, marine assurance, or inspection roles is strongly preferred.

Strong exposure to PSC inspections, vetting regimes (e.g. SIRE / RightShip), audits, and compliance reviews.

Excellent understanding of international maritime regulations and industry best practices.
