Job Title: Technical Superintendent – Ammonia Dual-Fuel Bulk Carrier

Experience Required: Minimum 1 year of shore-based experience (preferably in a Superintendent or Technical Officer capacity)


Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient Technical Superintendent to manage and support the operation and maintenance of an advanced ammonia-powered dual-fuel engine bulk carrier. Based in Hong Kong, the successful candidate will oversee vessel performance, ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and support the transition toward alternative fuel technologies in line with decarbonization goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Oversight:

    • Supervise daily technical operations of the ammonia dual-fuel bulk carrier.

    • Monitor engine performance and liaise with ship staff for safe and efficient operation of ammonia-fueled propulsion systems.

    • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance, dry-docking, and repairs.

  • Fuel Systems and Safety:

    • Ensure ammonia fuel systems comply with safety protocols and international maritime regulations (IMO, Class, Flag).

    • Support crew training on ammonia fuel handling and emergency procedures.

  • Compliance and Documentation:

    • Maintain up-to-date technical records, maintenance logs, and class/flag documentation.

    • Ensure vessel compliance with decarbonization and alternative fuel regulations (IMO GHG strategy, EU ETS, etc.).

  • Budgeting and Procurement:

    • Prepare technical budgets, control costs, and manage spare parts and consumables procurement.

    • Work closely with vendors and engine manufacturers (e.g., MAN ES, WinGD) on ammonia engine components and service needs.

  • Shore–Ship Coordination:

    • Serve as the primary contact point between vessel, management, classification societies, and regulatory authorities.

    • Conduct regular ship visits and inspections, supporting the crew with troubleshooting and performance optimization.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • COC Class 1 (Motor) or equivalent marine engineering qualification.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a shore-based technical role, preferably as Technical Superintendent or Technical Officer.

  • Sailing experience as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer on bulk carriers (dual-fuel or alternative fuels experience preferred).

  • Familiarity with ammonia fuel systems, dual-fuel engines (e.g., MAN B&W, WinGD), and marine alternative fuels technology is highly desirable.
