Job Title: Technical Superintendent – Bulk Carrier

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Technical Superintendent to oversee the technical management of a fleet of bulk carriers. The role is critical to ensuring vessels are operated safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively in full compliance with statutory regulations, classification society rules, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Vessel Management:
Oversee the day-to-day technical operation of assigned bulk carriers, including machinery performance, maintenance, and repairs. -
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure vessels comply with all relevant flag state, port state, Class, and IMO regulations, as well as company SMS and HSEQ policies. -
Budget Control:
Prepare and manage annual OPEX budgets for each vessel. Monitor costs and identify areas for optimization. -
Dry-Docking & Repairs:
Plan and execute scheduled dry-dockings, major repairs, and retrofits. Prepare specifications, evaluate quotes, supervise execution, and close out projects within time and budget. -
Vessel Inspections:
Conduct regular onboard inspections (including overseas visits) to assess vessel condition, verify compliance, and support crew. -
Procurement Support:
Review and approve requisitions for spares, stores, and services. Work closely with purchasing teams to ensure timely delivery and cost control. -
Crew Support & Development:
Liaise with Masters and Chief Engineers to provide technical guidance. Support training and development of sea staff. -
Client & Stakeholder Communication:
Maintain regular communication with shipowners, charterers, Class societies, and regulatory bodies. Provide technical reports and performance updates as required.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

Chief Engineer (COC Class 1) with at least 2 years of sea service on bulk carriers or
-
Degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar shore-based role
Experience:
Minimum 2 years as Technical Superintendent handling dry bulk vessels (Handymax, Panamax, Capesize, etc.)
Experience with dry-docking and OPEX management
Familiarity with planned maintenance systems (e.g., AMOS, Sertica, or similar)
Skills:
Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS)
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Proficiency in MS Office; experience with ERP or technical management software is a plus
Other:
Willingness to travel internationally at short notice
Ability to work independently under pressure and manage multiple vessels
